Rubbish Collections over Easter –
The Auckland Council advises the following changes to rubbish collections over Easter. All Massey residents do not put your rubbish out on Friday!
Changes to rubbish and recycling collections over Easter
Auckland Council is advising residents that no council rubbish, recycling and paper collections will occur in the region on Good Friday (22 April) or Easter Monday/ANZAC Day (25 April).
Those collections have been rescheduled to occur a day later, on Saturday 23 April and Tuesday 26 April respectively. Collections for the rest of the week have also been rescheduled to occur a day later, with the usual collection schedule resuming on Monday 2 May.
Auckland Council’s Solid Waste Business Unit Manager Jon Roscoe says this is a change for residents in the North Shore and parts of West Auckland that previously did not have collection changes over Easter.
“With one council for the whole region we have been able to achieve consistency across Auckland with Easter rubbish and recycling collections this year,” Mr Roscoe explains.
Residents are reminded that on their new council collection date over this period rubbish bins and bags should be placed kerbside by 7am as usual, along with recycling wheelie bins if they are due to be emptied.
Residents with private collection services should contact their supplier(s) directly to obtain those providers’ Easter collection dates.

Roadworks this weekend on the Northwestern motorway
Major works on the Northwestern Motorway
Thurs 2 April to Tues 7 April 2015 (Easter weekend)
- St Lukes Rd bridge closed from 8pm Thurs 2 Apr to 5am Tues 7 Apr
The St Lukes Road bridge will be closed to vehicles to safely build up the existing road levels and construct the approaches to the new, higher bridge. Pedestrian access across the bridge, the cycleway, motorway, local roads and public transport links in the area will remain open throughout the weekend.
Attractions such as MOTAT and Auckland Zoo will be unaffected and are open as usual with their planned events during the Easter weekend please see www.MOTAT.org.nz and www.aucklandzoo.co.nz for more information. Regular parking will be available.
- Te Atatu interchange lane restrictions from 10pm Thurs 2 Apr to 5am Tues 7 Apr
In the Te Atatu area there will be a number of lane restrictions during the weekend. Both of the citybound onramps will be closed and the citybound motorway will be reduced to one lane during the day (5am to 10pm) and closed each night (10pm to 5am).
These closures are necessary to lower the Te Atatu citybound motorway on-ramp and raise a portion of the motorway, near the bridge.
Once open on Tuesday 7 April, the two left hand motorway lanes underneath Te Atatu Road overbridge will be moved slightly to the north with the third lane remaining in the same location. This will tie in with the recent citybound lane changes between Te Atatu and Rosebank Roads.
Detour routes and more information
The Northwestern cycleway will remain open throughout the weekend. More information about the closures and the detour routes are available on our website www.nzta.govt.nz/projects/wrr
War on Weeds
It’s that time of year again when folk get stuck into weeding and get rid of their pest plants in the 14 free weed bins that Keep Waitakere Beautiful Trust have dotted around West Auckland from March 1 to 31.
Supported by the three Western Local Boards, War On Weeds regularly generates over 100 tonnes of green waste each year – the bulk of it invasive weeds like wild ginger, woolly nightshade, jasmine and trasdescantia.
The Massey bin is located Massey Library car park, corner of Westgate Dr and Don Buck Rd. For other bin locations and details of what can and can’t go into the bin visit http://kwb.org.nz/war-on-weeds/ or like our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/KeepWaitakereBeautiful.
In the photo Georgia Harmon from Te Henga has a pile ginger ready to be taken away and is taking advantage of the annual “War on Weeds” to do just that.
