As a resident and ratepayer group we represent the views of the community to the local Council and Government, ensuring adequate resources are spent in the community that will benefit the whole community.

Operation Spring Clean

love the westLove the West? Take action and clean up our streets, parks, beaches and reserves. Every Spring Keep Waitakere Beautiful raises the call to action and encourages schools, service organisations, sports clubs, churches, community groups, businesses and individuals to take an active role in cleaning up our environment.

Last year West Auckland residents removed over 40 tonnes of litter, inorganic rubbish and invasive weeds – a mammoth effort!

Operation Spring Clean is delivered in partnership with Auckland Council – equipping individuals, groups, schools and businesses with rubber gloves, bags and jumbo bins to clean up the West.

Massey Post Office

Massey post officeAccording to Ivan Clulee, in his marvellous book “Post Office Buildings in the Auckland Province” (actually Auckland Region, but that’s by-the-by …) “In Don Buck Road, one of the major arterial roads in the resi…dential area of Massey, a post office was located in leased premises from 26 July 1965 until closure on 27 January 1989, when PostBank closed this postal/banking operation.”

Dear North West Community Liaison Group member, please find message from Brian below:

 

It is now nearly three years since the North West Community Liaison Group had its first meeting and as you are aware I, in conjunction with Fiona Cunningham at Auckland Council, have been reviewing the group’s structure and terms of reference.

 

Made up of representatives from key project stakeholders in the transformation of Auckland’s north west, the group was set up by Auckland Council as a strategic communications tool.

 

The purpose of the group and its meetings was to ensure all stakeholders were fully informed about the project development and aware of any potential issues.

 

It also enabled stakeholders to hear about the various parties’ communication initiatives as part of a ‘no surprises’ strategy.

 

Over the past three years we have literally seen buildings come out of the ground – first at Hobsonville Point and now at Westgate.  The landscape at Westgate is changing daily and some retail outlets will be open by the end of this year.  Earthworks have started at Hobsonville Corridor signalling the beginning of development there.

 

Given that significant progress, the establishment of various other reporting/information channels for the project since the group’s inception and a change in communications’ focus I have decided to disband the group.  Its purpose and objectives have been met.

 

The group has been a valuable forum for information sharing and that information will continue to be shared as part of an updated communications programme in a variety of different ways including the HLC Hobsonville Point newsletter, Massey Matters and Massey Means Business, the Upper Harbour and Henderson-Massey local boards, the governing body and other networks.

 

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your time and dedication in terms of the liaison group and I am sure I will see you ‘around the traps’ of the north west transformation project.

Candlelight Vigil – Please come

This is an event for the West Auckland community to come together and show that we are not the Wild West, we are the Welcoming West.

We are more than the recent community events and we can band together and become stronger than ever.

At some point in the proceedings people will be invited to walk down to the dairy for a blessing there too.

The council will also provide candles – but you are welcome to bring torches etc if you wish younger family members to hold lit items as well.

 

Yoga on a Monday Pilates on a Tuesday

For all those people in Massey and well the west in general keen on keeping fit and supple, two new groups are available in the hall at the top of the hill.

 

Yoga classes are on offer with Patricia Smith who will becoming down from Greenhithe to take the classes from 6pm. You contact Patricia by visiting the venue page and clinking on her email [email protected] ,

 

On Tuesday nights Tanja is in the hall from 6.30pm to take you through her program of Pilates exercises. Oh and for those blokes who believe such exercises are well for the girls…… blokes attend these classes as well.
